Baby Breakfast Ideas 9-12 Months

Today, I’m sharing with you some of the things that Lucy has been eating for breakfast the past few months! I’ve been saying I was going to do this for a while so I’m happy to finally be writing it! Here you’ll find some ideas for healthy, plant-based breakfasts! In the title, I’ve indicated that these meals are for babies 9 to 12 months. I did this because this is the age range that Lucy has been eating it, however she’ll probably still be eating these meals as she gets older. I usually just modify the presentation as she develops new skills. For example, I used to cut her toast into tiny pieces, then I moved to cutting them into strips, then I would give her the whole piece with the crust cut off, and now I can give her the piece with the crust on! 

 

Before serving these meals to your baby/toddler, make sure they are developmentally ready for eating the types of food you plan to present!

 

Before I get into the food, I’d like to share with you our favorite dishware. I love Avanchy products for Lucy’s food. The plates and bowls are made from organic bamboo and they have silicone suctions so they stay put! Their utensils also have silicone tips so they’re soft for baby’s mouth! The wide base is easy to hold and makes it easy to scoop! This is not a sponsored post, I just highly recommend this brand. 

 

Chickpea Flour Scramble, Cinnamon Oatmeal, and Blackberries

For the chickpea flour scramble:

Whisk together 4 tbs chickpea flour, 4 tbs water, 1 tbs nutritional yeast, sprinkle of garlic powder, black pepper, and parsley. Add 2-3 chopped cherry tomatoes and a few leaves of chopped spinach. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat and add batter. Scramble with a spatula for a few minutes. 

 

For the oatmeal, I use Beechnut Organic Oatmeal, Unsweetened Vanilla Ripple Milk, and a little cinnamon. Lucy loves this! 

 

Avocado Toast and Berries

Avocado Toast is a favorite in our house! Lucy loves avocado no matter how I serve it! For breakfast, I’ll usually top it with chia seeds, garlic powder, and nutritional yeast. This is from a few months ago so everything is cut up but now she can eat a whole piece of toast and I just cut the berries in half instead of quarters. 

 

Banana Pancakes

Lucy loves banana pancakes! Just add some mashed banana to your regular pancake recipe!

 

Vegan Veggie Quiche

This is a perfect weekend breakfast! It is delicious and surprisingly easy to make! You combine chickpea batter (water & chickpea flour) with some veggies and spices, pour in a frozen crust, and bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes.

 

Mini Chickpea Flour Frittatas

These are similar to the quiche except they are bite size! I love these because you can really make them your own by choosing your favorite veggies and flavors. I base my recipe on one from The Mostly Vegan. I add different veggies every time and always add some spices to my batter (paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, etc). 

 

Here’s Lucy enjoying some toast and a Chickpea frittata on Christmas morning at grandma and grandpas house! She always goes for the toast first but she did eat the frittata too!

 

Tempeh Bacon & Potatoes with Fruit and Avocado

Often on the weekend, Jordan will make breakfast potatoes and tempeh bacon. He marinades the tempeh with tamari, maple syrup, and liquid smoke. It has really great flavor! We use Lightlife Organic Flax Tempeh

 

Coconut Yogurt with Berries and Os

On days where you don’t feel like making anything, this is an easy breakfast, though you may have to brace yourself for a mess! Lucy likes to mix her Os in with her yogurt so things tend to get messy around here! We use So Delicious Coconut Yogurt and Whole Food’s 365 Organic Morning O's

 

Most of the breakfasts I’ve shared so far are things we either have on the weekend or maybe once during the week. Most days, Lucy has oatmeal or waffles with fruit for breakfast. I like giving her the oatmeal/waffles because they have a lot of iron and are fortified with vitamin B12, which can be difficult to get on a plant based diet! Knowing she has these foods almost everyday makes me feel confident that she’s getting the nutrition she needs! She absolutely loves them too so that makes it easy!

 

We use Beech Nut Organic Oatmeal and Earth’s Best Organic Mini Waffles.  

 

Her favorite place to eat waffles is the floor. We don’t have her in a high chair anymore, just a booster at the table, but some days she just doesn’t want to sit there. Pick your battles!

 

For fruit she usually has berries or a banana with breakfast. 

My little monkey loves bananas!

 

Lucy usually has some milk when she wakes up. We use Ripple Unsweeted Original. This milk is loaded with protein, calcium, DHA omega-3s, vitamin D, and iron! Plus it has ZERO grams of sugar!

 

She drinks a few cups of milk a day and we also offer her water throughout the day and with meals.

 

I hope this post has given you a few breakfast ideas to try with your little one! The best part is that they are things the whole family can enjoy! Try to make meals that work for everyone as much as possible to make your days easier!
